Dr. Sepheen Byron

Senior Managing Director of Quality Programs

National Quality Forum

 
Sepheen Byron, Dr.P.H., M.H.S., has over 20 years of experience in health care quality evaluation and measurement. She is currently senior managing director of quality programs at the National Quality Forum (NQF), where she leads initiatives aimed at advancing the development and use of next-generation quality measures. Dr. Byron currently leads development of measures for NQF’s Aligned Innovation initiative, a multi-stakeholder coalition model designed to rapidly develop outcome measures in important gap areas. In addition, she serves as a subject-matter expert in areas including preventive services and pediatric and maternal health, and she has led initiatives to harness electronic clinical data for quality measurement.

Dr. Byron previously was assistant vice president for performance measurement at the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), where she oversaw the development and use of quality measures for HEDIS and other national evaluation programs. She developed measures used for accreditation, benchmarking, and quality ratings, and advised entities on the use of measures for value-based payment, accountability, and quality improvement. Prior to NCQA, Dr. Byron was a service fellow in the Center for Outcomes and Evidence at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, where she worked on key initiatives, including the National Healthcare Disparities Report.

Dr. Byron received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, her Master of Health Science from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and her Doctor of Public Health from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
