Terri Bauer, Executive Director and Head of Actuarial & Underwriting for Aetna’s Accountable Care Solutions, currently leads Aetna’s Value Based Contracting (VBC) Actuarial & Underwriting group. Ms. Bauer and her team are responsible for providing subject matter expertise and insight to the local market actuarial and underwriting teams. Ms. Bauer and her team provide expertise and insight on value-based solutions such as ACOs and Joint Ventures (JV); for working with the markets to craft new ACO and JV arrangements; and for providing settlements and reconciliations for the ACOs and JVs to plan sponsors, and, in collaboration with the VBC Medical Economics Unit (MEU), to providers. Before taking over this team in August 2017, she led Actuarial & Underwriting support for Aetna’s five joint ventures, providing thought leadership and consultative solutions for building strong value-based provider partnerships.
Prior to this, Ms. Bauer spent several years as Aetna’s Northeast Regional Actuary leading the local plan market actuaries for Aetna’s Northeast region, providing actuarial services for the Individual, Small Group, and Middle Market segments. She also spent several years leading the Medical Performance and Risk Analysis unit in the Core Commercial MEU, producing trend analysis, predictive modeling, and medical cost and trend commentary for Aetna’s quarterly earnings calls. During her time at Aetna, Ms. Bauer has also held roles in National Accounts Actuarial and Medicare Part D.
Ms. Bauer joined Aetna in 2005 from CIGNA and has nearly 30 years’ experience as a health actuary. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She is also an active volunteer with SOA, having served on the Health Section Council and presented numerous times at the Health and Annual meetings. Ms. Bauer holds a B.S. in mathematics from Penn State, and lives with her husband and three children near Hartford.
