Lee Fleisher (University of Pennsylvania) Lee A. Fleisher, M.D., is the Robert D. Dripps Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology and Critical Care and Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. His research focuses on measurement of quality of care, decision making, implementation of cultural change, and health policy. Within Penn Medicine, Dr. Fleisher is co-Chair of the Managed Care Contracting Committee of the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania and is involved in value-based contracting for the Health System.
Dr. Fleisher has also been active in many other committees, boards, panels, and organizations. He is former chair and member of the Consensus Standards Advisory Committee, co-chair of the Surgery Standing Committee, former member of the Measures Application Partnership Hospital Workgroup, and a current member of the Board of Directors and Finance Committee of the National Quality Forum. He is the current Chair of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Technical Expert Panel of the Leapfrog Group and a member of the Medical Advisory Panel for the Technology Evaluation Center of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association. In 2007, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM, formerly Institute of Medicine) of the National Academy of Sciences and serves on Committees of the NAM.
Dr. Fleisher received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and trained in anesthesiology at Yale New Haven Hospital. He has received numerous federal, industry, and foundation grants and has published over 160 original articles; over 200 editorials, reviews, and book chapters; and 9 books. Dr. Fleisher collaborates with a diverse array of professionals for his research, including anthropologists, sociologists, and faculty from law, business, and nursing. He is currently co-Principal Investigator on three federal grants on using novel statistical modelling to determine the optimal care for Medicare patients with multi-morbidities.
