James Schuster (UPMC Insurance Services Division) James Schuster, MD, MBA is the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Medical and Behavioral Services for the UPMC Insurance Services Division. In this role he provides medical leadership of the Medicaid and Special Needs plans as well as integrated medical and behavioral services. He is also responsible for oversight of the UPMC Center for High-Value Health Care.
Dr. Schuster has served in key clinical leadership roles at Community Care Behavioral Health Organization and UPMC Health Plan for over two decades. He has also led teams at the UPMC Center for High Value Healthcare that have secured several awards from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute and other funders focused on integrated care, shared decision making, and medication assisted treatment.
Dr. Schuster completed his medical education at the University of Louisville, his residency in psychiatry and MBA at the University of Pittsburgh, where he is also a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. He is board certified in psychiatry and in the subspecialties of geriatric psychiatry and addiction psychiatry.
