Specialists play an enormous role in the care delivery system, but traditionally have found it challenging to participate in APMs due to issues of patient attribution, as well as a lack of interoperable systems to connect multiple specialists and primary care providers in a way that supports coordinated care for patients. While specialists are interested in participating in Advanced APMs, these challenges, along with the lack of specialty-specific models in Medicare, provide adoption challenges. This session will feature specialty providers who have successfully implemented APMs in their practices, sharing their strategies as well as their suggestions for how to establish enhanced specialist participation to accomplish efficiencies in value-based, patient-centered care delivery.
