Dr. Zimmerman completed her MD at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and residencies in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She is board certified and a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Physicians. She serves on the Arkansas ACP Governor’s Council and is the Arkansas ACP Governor-elect. In 2003, Dr. Zimmerman founded Ozark Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, a NCQA level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), where she practiced for 14 years. Her clinic joined Unity Health in 2016. She now serves as the Unity Health Internal Medicine Program Director and the clinical leader of PCMH activities. She is a past member of the Technical Expert Panel for CMS whose mission is to develop innovative clinical quality measures for MACRA. She is chairman of the board of directors for Arkansas Foundation for Medicare Care (AFMC).

Dr. Zimmerman remains focused on leadership and education through the Patient-Centered Medical Home initiatives in Arkansas, emphasizing patient-centered access, care transitions, social determinants of health, and population management targeted toward improving outcomes while decreasing healthcare costs. She has been innovative in the implementation of electronic health records and continues to support advances in clinical integration for medical clinics. Even though she is new to academic medicine, her goal is to integrate patient-centered strategies and practices into residencies in a practical format that will prepare Internists for the future.
