Peter Basch (Medstar Health) Peter Basch, MD, MACP is a board-certified primary care internist in Washington DC and has received recognition for his clinical practice by the American Diabetes Association and the National Committee for Quality Assurance. He is the senior director for IT Quality and Safety and National Health IT Policy at MedStar Health. His primary role within MedStar Health is to help determine and then implement changes to workflow and technology in support of value-based payment models.
Dr. Basch is an early adopter of EHRs, ePrescribing, and other health IT. He has received national recognition for his work in practical implementation of health IT by the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS) and by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
He has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Annals of Internal Medicine, and is a frequent expert panelist and presenter in matters pertaining to EHR implementation and optimization.
Dr. Basch is a master of the American College of Physicians (ACP), and currently serving on several of their committees as well as their Board of Regents.
His medical degree is from the George Washington University School of Medicine, where he also completed an internship and residency in primary care/internal medicine.
