Dana Safran (BCBS Massachusetts) Dana Gelb Safran is senior vice president for Performance Measurement and Improvement for the Health Care Services Division of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA). In this role, she leads BCBSMA initiatives to measure and improve healthcare quality, safety and outcomes. Safran also retains an active academic practice and is an associate professor of medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Prior to joining BCBSMA, Safran directed The Health Institute at the Tufts Medical Center Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies. She is widely recognized for contributing to the empirical basis for our nation’s push toward a more patient-centered health care system, as well as for developing patient care experience measures that are now accepted and used as national standards and used by medical boards in their physician recertification processes.
Safran is an active member of multiple local and national healthcare quality boards and committees. She serves as a technical advisor to the National Quality Forum (NQF), as governor’s appointee to the Advisory Committee of the Massachusetts Healthcare Quality and Cost Council, clerk and board member of the Partnership for Health Care Excellence (PHCE) and board of directors member for Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP).
