Christina Severin (Community Care Cooperative) Christina Severin, M.P.H., is an accomplished health care executive with more than 25 years of experience in managed care, delivery systems, health insurance, Accountable Care Organizations, quality, public policy, and public health. She is the president and CEO of Community Care Cooperative (C3), a Massachusetts-based nonprofit company organized as a federally qualified health center-based MassHealth Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Unlike any other independent MassHealth ACO, C3 is a primary-care driven organization and has a care model that seeks to address its members’ social, behavioral and physical health needs; it is also the largest FQHC-based ACO in the United States.
Prior to founding C3, Severin was an independent consultant in both the public and private sectors, focusing on issues that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. Following several high-profile tragedies, Christina spent ten months working with the Department of Children and Families to implement new agency-wide child welfare policies as part of an effort to enhance child safety and welfare. Severin also served as president and CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization, a value-based physician and hospital network and ACO. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization, including leading strategic plans to effectively manage cost trends, optimize health care quality, and expand its network of physicians and hospitals.
The Boston Business Journal has recognized Severin as a “40 Under 40” honoree, profiled her in its “Women Up” feature, and named her to its list of top health care executives to change roles in 2013; HealthLeaders Media and Managed Care Executive have also recognized her for exceptional leadership qualities and industry-leading results. Severin has taught classes in healthcare administration and management at Boston University, Harvard University, and Northeastern University, and currently serves as a foundation associate for the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation.
Severin previously served as president of Network Health, a nonprofit Massachusetts health plan, leading the health plan’s dramatic growth and strategic direction; there she also served as vice president, COO, and director of quality. Prior to Network Health, Severin served as Director of Managed Care for Health Services Partnership, Practice Manager at Codman Square Health Center, and Director of Community Health Center Services at Boston City Hospital. She earned a master’s degree in public health, with a concentration in health services, from Boston University School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts in political economy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
