Martin Serota, MD, serves as a member of the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network’s Primary Care Payment Model Work Group. Dr. Serota is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at AltaMed Health Services, a fully-accredited Federally Qualified Health Center serving Southern California.
At AltaMed, he oversees a medical staff of more than 140 providers, an independent practice associations (IPA) of over 800 providers, as well as the medical management, quality and medical informatics teams. He has led the medical staff in its year-over-year improvement in quality and patient experience. Dr. Serota’s priorities are to create a patient-centered organization focusing on the patient experience and quality outcomes. He works to improve operational efficiency, utilizing health information technology and innovation, allowing AltaMed to care for more patients and reduce health care disparities. Under his direction, AltaMed became the first medical group in the nation to receive Joint Commission recognition as a Primary Care Medical Home.
Dr. Serota is a tireless advocate for patients and providers and has spent a career building effective clinical teams and partnerships. He is a frequently invited national speaker on topics such as provider engagement, patient-centered medical home, and medical management of complex populations. He has been published on similar topics.
Dr. Serota studied at University of California, San Francisco, and is board-certified in internal medicine. Practicing for more than 30 years, he has assumed leadership roles, for medical groups, IPAs, and accountable care organizations.
