Sanford “Sandy” Melzer MD, MBA is the Executive Vice President for Networks and Population Health and Chief Strategy Officer at Seattle Children’s. He also serves as Professor of Pediatrics and Health Services at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine.

Dr. Melzer completed his medical training at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and his MBA at the University of Washington. A physician executive and pediatric hospitalist with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Melzer is responsible for strategic planning and business development for Seattle Children’s. In this role, he has lead the development of several multi-year enterprise wide strategic plans focused on clinical and research growth and delivering value. Under his leadership, Seattle Children’s has developed one of the largest distributed regional networks in the US, with 40 sites delivering pediatric specialty care in 4 states.

Dr. Melzer also leads Seattle Children’s strategic response to health care reform. He is currently planning and implementing new initiatives to deliver value based services. In the past 18 months, he started a new Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) with nearly 1,000 primary care and specialty physicians, is the Principal Investigator for a CMS Innovation grant piloting innovative models of care for disabled children, and has entered into value based arrangements with ACOs in the Seattle market.
