Benjamin Van Voorhees (UI Health Pediatrics)

Dr. Benjamin Van Voorhees has joined UI Health Pediatrics as Associate Professor of Pediatrics; Chief, Division of General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine; and Director, TIKES Center. Dr. Van Voorhees and his colleagues are working in numerous ways each day to uphold the UI Health Pediatrics commitment to providing high quality health care to a diverse population. To mention just one example, Dr. Van Voorhees is spearheading the movement to advance the Medical Home Model at the Children’s Hospital University of Illinois.

The research interests of Dr. Benjamin Van Voorhees have both detail and scope. For example, he has completed four studies examining the managed care, practice level, and patient determinants of treatment outcomes for depression. Adolescent depression is his main research interest. Other interests are psychotherapy, mental disorders in children, and resiliency formation. He has received a NARSAD (National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression) Young Investigator Award, a Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Foundation Depression in Primary Care Value Grant, and a NIMH (K-08) Career Development Award to fund a Phase 2 clinical trial of a primary care/Internet-based depression prevention intervention called CATCH-IT) (Competent Adulthood Transition with Cognitive, Humanistic, and Interpersonal Training). The primary author of more than thirty peer reviewed publications, Dr. Van Voorhees has served as a grant reviewer for the government of the Netherlands and the RWJ Foundation. Dr. Van Voorhees has made more than fifty presentations at national and international scientific meetings.
