Health Division Director, National Governors Association

Frederick Isasi serves as director for the NGA Center for Best Practices’ Health Division. Isasi directs state technical assistance, research, policy analysis and project development for all health issues. He also oversees work related to health care service delivery and payment reform, Medicaid reform and cost containment, health care data and analytics, public health issues such as maternal and child health and prescription drug abuse prevention, behavioral health and the social determinants of health and health insurance coverage issues such as insurance market reforms and health insurance exchange planning and operations.

Prior to joining NGA, Isasi served as vice president of health policy at The Advisory Board company and as senior legislative counsel for healthcare for Senator Jeff Bingaman. He also served as healthcare policy associate for Powell Goldstein LLP, senior health policy advisor for The District of Columbia Primary Care Association and as a researcher for the Department of General Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine.

Isasi holds a J.D. from Duke University School of Law, a master’s degree in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor of science in cellular biology and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Frederick was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and after a brief period living in the United Kingdom, spent his childhood in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
