Charles Fazio, MD, MS, is a member of the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network’s Guiding Committee. He serves as Senior Vice President and Health Plan Medical Director for HealthPartners where he is responsible for programs to improve the health of plan members as well as for initiatives that oversee and improve the quality, service, and affordability of the health care plan that members receive. Dr. Fazio has extensive experience in quality improvement, cross-community collaboration, health care finance, and public policy. For the past two decades, he has focused his time on helping individuals and communities explore how to be healthier. He has also participated with payers and care delivery systems as they worked to make health care more effective, more efficient, and more satisfying to patients. Dr. Fazio also served as Chief Medical Officer at Medica, Medical Director at ISCI, and medical director roles at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, The Mille Lacs Health System, and HealthSense. In 2007, Dr. Fazio served on the Minnesota Governor’s Task Force on Health Care Transformation. In 2009, he co-chaired the Minnesota Task Force on Provider Peer Group Measurement. Dr. Fazio received his bachelor of science degree in biology and computer science and his MD from Georgetown University. He has a Master of Science degree in administrative medicine from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
