Inaugural Chair of Surgery and Perioperative Care, Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin

 

Kevin Bozic, MD, serves as a member of the Health Care Payment Learning & Action Network’s Clinical Episode Payment Work Group. He is the inaugural Chair of Surgery and Perioperative Care at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a nationally recognized leader in orthopedic surgery, health policy, and health care services research. Prior to joining the Dell Medical School, he was the William R. Murray Endowed Professor and Vice Chair of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical School and Core Faculty of the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies. His interests are in the fields of health policy and health care services research, specifically in the implementation and evaluation of value-based payment and delivery models. Dr. Bozic is actively involved in numerous health policy initiatives, including the American Joint Replacement Registry, the Integrated Healthcare Association’s Episode of Care Payment Program, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and Harvard Business School’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness. In his prior role at UCSF, he led UCSF Medical Center’s participation as one of the first sites for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation’s Bundled Payment for Care Improvement Initiative for total joint arthroplasty. Dr. Bozic holds both regional and national leadership positions, including Chair of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Council on Research and Quality and member of the Board of Directors of the American Joint Replacement Registry. He completed medical school at UCSF School of Medicine and also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
