As health care organizations adopt APMs, there is growing interest in how these models can be used to motivate behavior changes that can lead to improved outcomes and quality of care. In this session, Drs. Kevin Volpp and Amol Navathe from the University of Pennsylvania will explore how the principles of behavioral economics can be used to advance health care payment reform by encouraging providers to adopt innovative approaches to care delivery. The presenters will also discuss how the use of intrinsic and extrinsic incentives can drive changes in behavior both within provider organizations and among patients. Over time, these behavior changes have the potential to improve the quality of care delivery and increase population health outcomes.
