Kevin Kappel (SCAN Group) Kevin serves as the Vice President, Corporate Development of SCAN Group, which includes SCAN Health Plan and affiliated companies. In this role he is responsible for developing and executing on SCAN’s growth and diversification strategies working with both the health plan and its portfolio of diversified companies. Since joining the organization, SCAN has launched three new companies, completed eight passive investments in promising start-ups, acquired one company focused on wellness visits and palliative care, guided SCAN through an announced merger with Care Oregon, and implemented the VBID hospice carve-in. He also served as the Co-Founder, inaugural Chief Operating Officer, and Treasurer of Healthcare in Action, SCAN’s new medical group that serves individuals experiencing homelessness through an integrated primary care, behavioral health, and social service navigation “street medicine” model.
Prior to SCAN Kevin was the Director of Partnerships for CareMore Health & Aspire Health, two companies within Anthem’s Diversified Business Group. In this role he was responsible for all growth in the West region for both companies, in addition to their participation in models within the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). Kevin came to Anthem’s DBG following several years at The Chartis Group where he advised governments, academic medical centers, children’s hospitals, and community health systems on issues related to population health and value-based care.
Kevin started his career in Washington, DC focused on eldercare working with post-acute providers delivering home health, hospice, and long-term care services. He spent several years at the Mintz Levin law firm, in a variety of roles and responsibilities. His projects involved developing policy solutions for clients interested in implementing new healthcare models with a focus on integrated and accountable care for patients with serious progressive chronic conditions. Over the years he has been an advisor for several non-profits including the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care, the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership, and the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation.
Kevin holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and Science & Technology Policy from Georgetown University and a Master of Business Administration from the Columbia Business School – Columbia University.
